The District has undertaken numerous projects to help protect and enhance the water rights in the San Luis Valley. Some of the most notable are listed below.
The Closed Basin and the Norton Drain projects are two of the early projects that the District has completed.
The San Luis Valley Regional Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP), and the Rio Grande Natural Area (RGNA) are the most current projects that the District has undertaken.
The HCP was completed in November of 2012 and the RGNA Commission completed their management plan in 2015.

Rio Grande Water Conservation District is fully committed to providing accessible facilities, elements and
channels of communication to all members of the public. As part of this commitment, Rio Grande Water Conservation District
has a policy of providing an accessible website compatible with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) and
commercial screen reading software. All features of the website are coded to allow individuals with vision and
other impairments to understand and use the website to the same degree as someone without disabilities. We welcome
